The Royal Hawaiian Eye Meeting (fondly called “RHEM”) was started by Hawaiian Eye Foundation’s President Dr. John Corboy 40 years ago, and is now the third largest annual, educational eye care meeting in America.

Held every January in Hawai’i, RHEM hosts over 1,000 doctors, nurses, technicians, and administrators for a week of intensive lectures and workshops on advances in ophthalmology.
RHEM is currently sponsored by VINDICO Medical Education, who changed the name to Hawaiian Eye Meeting, and modest royalties from the meeting support our overseas eye care service and training programs.
The Foundation annually presents the Phillip M. Corboy, MD Memorial Award for Distinguished Service to Ophthalmology, sponsored by Bausch & Lomb. We are also given the honor of hosting the Biosyntrx Thornton Humanitarian Award.
Our Foundation also provides scholarships to students and surgeons from overseas to attend the meeting.
The annual meetings of the Board of Directors of Hawaiian Eye Foundation are held in conjunction with RHEM, as are the assemblies of our Advisory Board.
We have an informational booth where we provide information on volunteering for overseas expeditions and encourage attendees to donate their time, skills, and financial support for those in need throughout the Pacific. We also have a great selection of HEF t-shirts for sale. Please stop by our booth to discuss serving the blind poor together.
