St. Vincent & Dr. Brett Bielory Phaco Surgeries in August 2018

HEF has been asked to help with the backlog of cataract patients in St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG), and to teach phaco techniques to local surgeons.

Dr. Brett Bielory studied under HEF Advisor Dr. Helen Wu at Tufts. After hearing her share about the organization, he was eager to volunteer. From August 1-8, Dr. Brett journeyed to SVG for his first HEF mission to perform phaco surgeries on patients who have waited years for the gift of sight.

We are grateful for Dr. Brett’s hard work and dedication to this project. We are thrilled that he enjoyed his first HEF mission so much so that he has already committed to return soon.

A special thanks to Fidel Caesar, Founder of our local partner organization, Medical Relief Association Inc., and Dr. Orly Adams, Head of Ophthalmology at Milton Cato Memorial Hospital for making this mission possible. Also, mahalo to SEEInternational for providing last minute lenses for this mission.
