In mid-August 2018, Dr. Jeff Rutgard and ED Darrah Kauhane were invited to join Dr. Geoffrey Tabin and The Himalayan Cataract Project (HCP) in Arba Minch, Ethiopia. Those familiar with Dr. Tabin know of his selfless work ethic and attention to detail, and many have seen HCP’s unprecedented efforts in Nepal on 60 minutes, Fox News, and NPR. “The Himalayan Cataract Project works to eradicate preventable and curable blindness in the developing world.” Hawaiian Eye Foundation is grateful for this incredible opportunity to learn from Dr. Tabin, HCP and their local Ethiopian team. This mission gave us a truly global vision of what teamwork and local capacity building can accomplish. We were honored to take part in the Arba Minch Project and look forward to many more collaborations with this incredible organization.
