The 2017 Giving Tuesday holiday has come to a close. Giving Tuesday is an international day of giving that follows the Thanksgiving, Black Friday and Cyber Monday weekend. All over the world, individuals and companies are asked to take a day from their busy holiday shopping to consider a gift to their favorite non-profit. Giving Tuesday brings society back to the true meaning of the season; one of selflessly sharing with others.

One of the thousands of organizations vying for end-of-year gifts was the Hawaiian Eye Foundation. Of all the non-profits that BSM Consulting could have supported, they selected the Hawaiian Eye Foundation as one of their top causes this year. President and CEO of BSM Consulting, Bruce Maller, stated: “As a long-time believer in the mission of the Hawaiian Eye Foundation, it is an honor and a privilege to help the Foundation meet its stated goal to give the gift of a thousand sunrises and sunsets.” BSM has done just that by supporting the Hawaiian Eye Foundation’s cataract surgery program! Some of their patients have been blind for over twenty years, but now they are able to enjoy the beauty of nature again! Many are thrilled just to be able to see their grandchildren’s smiles for the first time!

BSM Consulting was introduced to the Hawaiian Eye Foundation by an ophthalmic consulting colleague, Sherri Boston, MBA, who was the first female to serve on the Hawaiian Eye Foundation Board of Directors. Not only did she provide business support to the organization, but she also shared her love for the mission of the Foundation with everyone she met. Sherri had served on these missions and became an advocate for the work done to serve those who are blind in marginalized island nations throughout the world.

BSM Consulting has been providing outstanding consulting services and educational resources to ophthalmic providers and other health care professionals in the eye care industry for more than 35 years. They recognized the good work being done within the organization and decided to get involved. “Everyone at BSM Consulting is proud to support the Foundation and what it has accomplished since 1984 under the direction of a thoughtful leadership team and its many compassionate on-the-ground volunteers.”

“Kudos to the Hawaiian Eye Foundation,” Maller said. “Keep up the good work.” The Hawaiian Eye Foundation vows to do just that with the generous gift from BSM Consulting. Their donation will allow the Foundation to provide many sight-saving cataract surgeries on BSM’s behalf. The lives of these patients will be changed forever! Not only will these patients gain their independence back, but they also regain the ability to work and provide for their families again! To all of the donors that chose HEF as their charitable organization on Giving Tuesday, we say “Thank You”!  What a way to start the new year!

Since 1984, the 501(c)(3) nonprofit, Hawaiian Eye Foundation, has worked to ensure that all people have access to eye care. HEF is dedicated to promoting the preservation, restoration, and improvement of vision for people of the Pacific Basin through charitable service, education, and research programs. HEF serves Hawai’i and the places where people of Hawai’i originated through free surgeries, medical training programs, student mentorships, distribution of ophthalmic equipment, and the establishment of sustainable eye clinics.
