2017 Cataract Days
We are pleased to announce the first annual Cataract Days project!
On Monday, March 20th, 2017, Dr. Chris Tortora and the Hawaiian Eye Center will be donating their time and services to conduct free cataract surgeries for those who are uninsured or underinsured.
This project is especially for those who do not have or cannot obtain medical insurance. We will also accept those who meet a list of eligibility requirements, including a household income of less than 200% of the poverty level.
Our goal is to give the gift of sight to those who would otherwise be unable to obtain such services. This will give them the chance to care for themselves and branch out into the workforce.
Mandatory pre-operative exams will be held by appointment on March 11th. If the patient does not have a general practitioner, physicals and surgical clearance will also be available that day. Mandatory post-operative exams will occur at 7:00am on March 21st. All appointments will be held at the Hawaiian Eye Center (HEC) in Wahiawa. Bus passes and/or shuttles will be provided, if necessary.
Secondary post-ops can be completed by the patients’ doctors or by the HEC.
If you or someone you know may be able to utilize this service, please call (808)536-3961 or email firstname.lastname@example.org to learn more.
This inaugural effort is sponsored by the Atherton Family Foundation and presented by Project Vision Hawai’i and Hawaiian Eye Foundation.
